The girls have had a challenging season, made all the more so by Captain Chardon Brooks ’15 ACL tear over the summer. The team suffered losing four other starters, including Kristin Gates ’15, Claudia Slifka ‘16, Rebecca Calhoun ’19, and Sophie Lapat ‘18.
Varsity Soccer teams will go head-to-head with competing schools in the annual homecoming soccer games, Saturday, Oct. 18. The girls will face The Master's School on Orr Field at noon. The Boys game will begin immediately afterward, with kick-off at 2:30 p.m against the Hoosac School.
Chosen for their superior academic performance and community involvement, five seniors were nominated as James Otis Scholars, and attended a special lecture series Faneuil Hall on Sept. 17: Robert Brooks, Keenan Iuliano, Dora Garcia, Elizabeth Leeder, and Sam Girioni.
As a competitive athlete who grew up in this new world order, I'm a believer in performing to the best of my ability—and at the highest level of play. But since my ACL injury, I’ve acquired a new perspective on the competitive sports system for young adults. I have even begun to question whether it makes sense for young men and women to be participating at a level of play that heightens the risk of enduring such traumatic injuries.
Students from the Creative Arts Diploma Program (CAP) and Musical Theater went to see The Lion King in Boston on Thursday Oct. 1. For two hours at the Boston Opera House, students were transported to the African Savanna for an incredible adventure. Originally a 1994 Disney animated movie, in 1997, The Lion King opened as a Broadway musical directed by Julie Taymor—and has since taken the American public by storm.
