Outside trespassers climbed onto the roof of the Hastings Center last Monday night, leaving behind two plastic adirondack chairs from the outside classroom.
Though no students were involved, Head of School Judith Guild emphasized the need for students to remain vigilant and adhere to campus rules for their safety.
“First, our students were not involved,” Guild said. “However, if the police come by and see kids doing anything they should not be doing, including being on the campus unsupervised, they will not be able to tell if the students are our Brimmer kids or outside people.”
Chief Financial Officer Julian Hickman, who also oversees campus security, reviewed external video cameras.
“We discovered that a group of people trespassed onto the campus and climbed onto the roof starting on the patio outside of Hastings,” Hickman said.
Guild emphasized the School’s goal to help students stay safe and remain responsible.
“The goal of the police is not to catch you, but to protect you,” Guild said. “Follow Brimmer rules at all time, and if you see something, say something.”
The suspects have not yet been identified, Hickman said, and the Newton Police Department did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the investigation.
