Students to Perform “Great Expectations”

Mr. Jacob directs his actors in the upcoming performance of "Great Expectations."

The past few weeks have been extremely busy for the cast of this year’s fall play, “Great Expectations.”

The dramatic adaptation of the classic novel by Charles Dickens deals with issues of class, unrequited love, and injustice.

To top last season’s well-received productions of “Treasure Island” and “Hairspray,” the Theatre Department is “going to pull out all the stops,” according to Director and Creative Arts Chair Bill Jacob.

“It’s a real drama. We haven’t done many of those in the Upper School,” Jacob said, noting that he hopes the production will “give the actors a chance to stretch.”

To help make that happen, Jacob is working with a new costume designer, Georgia Lagadinos, and two new technical directors, Trish Torpey and Bill Hawkins. This year’s play will also highlight the talents of actors in all grades.

In addition to returning veterans such as Susanna Calhoun ’15, Genevieve Lefevre ’15, and Elizabeth Leeder ’15, a number of underclassmen have featured roles in the production, including Zack Rocklin-Waltch ’17, who will play the leading role of Pip.

The show will be performed on Thursday, Nov. 13-14 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2:00 pm.
