Gator Wins Quill and Scroll Awards

The Quill and Scroll, a prestigious international high school journalism honor society, recently awarded Brian Gamble ’23 and Nate Suraci ’21 honorable mentions for news and political writing, respectively.

Gamble earned special recognition for his Dec. 13 article, Teachers, Students Weigh in on Canvas, while Suraci won praise for his Jan. 7 piece, Tackling the Disparity in Public School Funding.

“I am so proud of Nate and Brian on their awards,” Co-Editor-in-Chief Caroline Champa ’20 said. “They have been great writers and I enjoy working with them. They have worked hard and improved their skills over the semester. I commend them on their work and look forward to seeing what the future brings for them.”

According to the Quill and Scroll, “students from five countries submitted 2,439 entries in 30 categories, and judges chose 277 winning entries produced by 319 students, or National Winners.”

Gamble and Suraci are now also eligible to apply for Quill and Scroll scholarships, ranging from $500 to $1,500, which can applied toward any college or university that offers a major in journalism or related areas of communications.
