Alumni Basketball Players Bring in the Heat

During Saturday’s annual Alumni Day, the School held its first-ever Alumni Basketball Game, inviting former School athletes back to campus to reunite and compete on the court.

In attendance were recent alums A.J. Reeves ’18, Jordan Minor ’19, Gianni Thompson ’21, Kyrell Luc ’21, Clayton McLaren ’21, and Paxton Wong ’20, all of which are currently continuing their athletic and academic career in college.

Dylan Rigol ’18, Mark Gasperini ’16, Adam Mikula ’16, David Watkins ’15, John Powell ’13, Matt Teklu ’12, Jake Fay ’11, Marco Banegas ’11, and Matt Teklu ’12 also joined the game, among others attending Saturday’s Alumni Day.

Assistant Athletic Director Tom Nelson, who has coached the Varsity Boys Basketball Team for over ten years, has seen the athletes grow at the School and beyond.

“It feels like when you’re a person, teacher, and coach, you get to see the fruits of your labor all in front of you coming back,” Nelson said. “They’re great people; they want to be back here. They felt they belonged to something that was greater and bigger than them.”

Nelson continues to support his former athletes and mentees, visiting their collegiate games and catching up during the off-season.

“It filled me with happiness. It gives you that little bit of energy to feel like you can continue on,” Nelson said. “We need to continue growing this more and more and encourage our alumni to come back as much as we can.”
