Last weekend, the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers, in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick.

The Utah Jazz were also involved in the deal, receiving Jalen Hood-Schifino from the Lakers, and two second-round picks, one from the Clippers and the other from the Mavericks.

However, Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis were the key players in the deal.

Anthony Davis is a 10-time all-star and former NBA champion, while Luka Doncic is a 5-time All-Star.

The Lakers have sustained a solid future in Luka Doncic, while the Mavericks have given up their franchise player in hopes of a dominant defender in Anthony Davis.

This trade has shocked the NBA community. Many fans questioned how the Mavericks would be willing to trade their MVP-caliber franchise player.

According to ESPN reporter Tim McMahon, the Mavericks were concerned about Doncic’s conditioning and his weight, as he reportedly reached 270 pounds.

However, this did not stop global fans from questioning the trade.

In fact, Mavericks fans held a protest outside of their arena, American Airlines Center, in response to the trade, during which they cried “Luka, take us with you!”

This trade sparks a large change in the course of the NBA’s future.

With Luka Doncic departing the Dallas Mavericks and uniting with LeBron James in Los Angeles, the trajectory of the NBA’s  Western Conference will be altered, and with the Lakers acquiring Luka Doncic, they will have more options for the future, when LeBron James departs.

However, on the Mavericks side, they have given up their superstar player, in hopes of a better defense.
