
The Gator won several prestigious individual awards for best content produced during the fall semester, earning national recognition in opinion writing and sports writing from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA)announced earlier today.
Outgoing Editor-in-Chief Amelia Bowman won runner-up for best opinion piece with “Heretic:” A24 Strikes Again!, and Andrew Flint’s ’26 guest piece, Saying the Right Words: My Journey Through Stuttering, earned fourth place.
For sports writing, Sports Editors Gabe Cohen ’26 and Tavio Mares-Van Praag ’27 earned an honorable mention for Rimon Zhao ’27 Kicks Off a New Chapter.
“I am so proud of the entire newsroom, including the amazing award-winners,” publication adviser David Cutler said. “I also want to give a special shout-out to Andrew Flint, who is the first guest writer to ever win such a prestigious journalism award.
According to NSPA’s announcement, there were 894 submissions in the fall competition. Of those, 128 entries—about 14 percent—received recognition.
