Boys’ Varsity Baseball captured an astounding first round playoff victory against Boston Trinity Academy (BTA) yesterday, leading to their second-straight MBIL Championship appearance.
Earlier in the year, BTA triumphed over Brimmer 8-5 in their first matchup. Later in the season, they defeated the Gators again 9-8 in an extra-innings thriller.
Heading into the playoffs, BTA’s strong regular season put them in place for the second seed, while Brimmer captured the third seed.
Heading into the Friday, April 21 match-up, BTA entered as the favorite, with both teams putting their ace on the mound—Brimmer turning to Adrian Mathiesen ‘26 in hopes of earning their first win over BTA this season.
But the Gators stunned the home team in Hyde Park, delivering a dominant 22-0 shutout after struggling to beat them earlier in the year.
Mathiesen, who was incredibly impressive in the victory, pitched five innings and captured 11 strikeouts with only one hit and zero earned runs.
Mathiesen displayed his excellence on the other end as well, batting 3-4 with a three run homerun, a double, and a single.
Other players like Johnny Walsh ‘25, Harry Hall ‘25, and Caleb Bess ‘27 contributed greatly for the Gators as well.
“We lost two games to them in the regular season, and we came in with an intensity that they couldn’t match.” Mathiesen said.
The Gators play for the second straight year in the MBIL Championship, traveling to Gann Academy for a 4 pm match-up.
