In a 4-3 victory over Gann Academy on Wednesday, the Gators clinched their first MBIL Baseball Championship since 2018.
The Gators came out strong, putting up two runs in the first inning. Though Gann quickly responded with two of their own, Brimmer regained the lead in the second and held it in a back-and-forth battle that remained close through the sixth.
“At the beginning of the game, we looked good,” starting pitcher Kingston Woolley ‘28 said, who clinched six strikeouts. “They scored one and then we came back and scored another one, and then Adrian closed out the win for us.”
Despite a challenging start to the season, the Gators found momentum when it counted. After an early loss to Wheeler, the team rebounded with a key win against CSW and continued to build confidence and chemistry.
“It was a rough beginning,” Woolley said. “We kept trying to get better and better, so that if we were given the opportunity of coming back to the championship, we could capitalize.”
Reflecting on his own performance, Woolley said he struggled with control at times but credited his teammates for stepping up. “I walked a lot of people towards the bottom of the order, but I feel like my team was able to rally behind me and pick up the win.”
The team Is losing eight players, many of which are graduating seniors, including Team Captain Johnny Walsh ‘25 is one of them.
Over his years with the team, Walsh has seen tremendous progress with the program:

“We practiced on the soccer field, and to now having our own baseball field to practice on and having a lot more players available on the team has been tremendous. It’s been so amazing to watch the program grow,” Walsh said.
Walsh appreciates his growth as a player here.
“I definitely think I’ve gotten bigger, stronger, faster, just as I’ve grown up, but going to practice every day and being able to practice on the baseball field instead of on a soccer field with softball has been a lot better because we’ve been able to mesh as a team more,” Walsh explained.
