Peer tutoring will move beyond its soft launch in the coming days, giving students access to extra academic support.
This year’s program is led by Brooks Neufeld ‘26 and Mary Wang ‘26, who succeeded year’s leaders Stephanie Altschul ‘25, Constantine Wagner ’25, and Eli Lewis ‘25. The new pair is focused on keeping the program organized, including offering opportunities for leadership as peer tutors to help build a stronger community.
“At the moment, peer tutoring hasn’t fully started yet,” Neufeld said. “We’re working on applications, scheduling times, and figuring out which spaces work best for everyone.”
The team has faced some early challenges with setup and the application process.
“There was a ton of behind-the-scenes stuff that needed to happen, such as creating that application, meeting with different teachers about where peer tutoring will be held, and what needs to go into the program,” Neufeld said.
Still, Neufeld explained that planning everything from the ground up has helped them improve program operations.
“We really want to make sure everything is clear and easy for both tutors and students,” Neufeld said. “Our goal is to make the transition smooth for the next group and help the program continue to grow.”
Neufeld encourages students across all grades to get involved in the program.
“We want as many people as possible to join,” Neufeld said. “Peer tutoring is a great way to help others, earn community service hours, and connect with more people in the Brimmer community.”
Neufeld and Wang recently completed the first cycle of admission, and the new tutors will begin mentoring shortly.
Editors’ note: Students are invited to talk with Neufeld or Wang to apply to the peer tutoring program. Wang also serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Gator.
