Harvest Fest aims to unite the entire school for an hour of teamwork and fall-themed fun on Friday.
As the only all-school event held during the school day, it brings together students from Pre-K through Grade 12 to celebrate the new season.
Harvest Fest has been a strong school tradition for many years, according to Operations Manager Claire Harrison, who is organizing the event.
“It’s a time for the whole Brimmer community to come together and participate in a fall-themed activity at the beginning of the year,” Harrison said.
Although the origins of the event go back many years, it’s said that Lower School Art Teacher Joanne Clamage first started the tradition, which has since been carried on by different teachers.
This year’s Harvest Fest has both classic and new activities. Students can expect return fan favorites like pumpkin rolling, limbo, and freeze dance, as well as new relay races.
“I’m not going to give away all the details,” Harrison said, “but we have a couple of new [activities] that should be really fun.”
Despite its short duration, planning the event requires well-coordinated staff and informed students.
“It’s tricky to make sure everyone gets time at each activity, especially the younger students,” Harrison said. “I’d love it if it could be a longer event, but since it’s during the school day, we only have one block.”
Harrison hopes students leave Harvest Fest with a stronger sense of connection with the rest of the community.
“I think it’s great for them to come engaged and ready to have fun, to connect with their buddies, and to walk away with a sense of community—and excitement about fall,” Harrison said.
