With Halloween just around the corner, the Upper School Student Senate has been hard at work planning two exciting, fun-filled events to get students in the fall spirit.
On Wednesday, students will get together in advisory groups and decorate a pumpkin. Each advisory will receive a pumpkin and a variety of materials; however, students may also bring their own supplies. Students can create scary, cute, or artistic pumpkins. Once completed, the pumpkins will be displayed in the school on Friday as decorations to add a touch of Halloween charm.
On Friday, students will mark the School’s Costume Day by coming to class in costume.
A faculty panel (Creative Arts Department Chair Bill Jacob, Upper School humanities teacher Ted Barker-Hook, Director of Innovation and Design Kathryn Lee, and math teacher Rupa Houndegla) will judge the contest.
During Community Block, students will gather in the theater for the contest.
This special event last took place two years ago, and the Student Senate is excited to bring it back.
“I’m really excited for the pumpkin decorating project in advisory groups because I feel like we’ve never done anything like it before and it will be a fun activity,” Upper School Senate President Mary Wang ’26 said.
Editors’ note: There will be prizes for first, second, and third-place winners, including gift cards, so start planning your costume! Mary Wang ’26 also serves as Editor-in-Chief of The Gator.
