At Suffolk University’s recent “Greater Boston High School Newspaper Competition,” I had the chance to browse dozens of high school newspapers, sprawled out across a long table. I heard from several event goers that less than 30 percent of student newspapers are now all-digital. By not having a print edition, I began to wonder whether The Gator is alienating a large part of our potential readership. If so, what could be done to address this? I’m amazed how our newsroom has established a professionally-run site, especially in just a few short months. This made receiving Second Runner-Up for “Excellence in Online Journalism” an even bigger triumph. I can only begin to imagine where we will be in a few years. And here we are, already taking a few next steps. The Gator will now print monthly highlights, recapping some our biggest articles. You can find the April 2015 edition in the library today!
