Luc ’21 Scores 29 Points in V1 Season Opener

Varsity Boys’ Basketball fell 71-58 in its Dec. 4 season opener against Worcester Academy, though Gator players put up some serious points.

Gianni Thompson ’21 scored 17 points.

“He was aggressive from the beginning and pushing the boundaries of his expanded game,” Head Coach Tom Nelson said. “He was able to get to the rim and draw fouls.”

The Gators hung close during the first half thanks to timely shooting by Will Chun ’23 and Charlie Marconi ’20. Chun knocked down a shot to end the first half, with the Gators down 7.

The second half started with Worcester flexing its muscle and building a 20-point lead. The Gators would not go down without a fight and dwindled the lead to 7.

Kyrell Luc ’21 was instrumental in the comeback, finishing the game as the high scorer with 29 points. Last year, Luc scored 35 points against Proctor Academy.

“It was pretty exciting to score that many points, but losing made it feel less worthwhile,” Luc said.

“Unfortunately, that would be the closest the Gators would be all night,” Nelson said.”

The team is 0-3 this season, with the next game scheduled for Saturday at noon at Babson College against Marianapolis Preparatory School.
