While catching up with old friends and cheering on Brimmer and May’s varsity soccer teams, dozens of Gator fans gathered last Saturday for Homecoming at Orr Field.
“Homecoming last weekend was a blast,” says Director of Development Elizabeth Smith. “The sidelines were crowded and it was so nice to see many of our young college alumni supporting their friends and catching up with old teachers and each other. Our upper school students volunteered their time putting Brimmer and May Gator tattoos on the middle and lower school students, handing out really fun foam fingers, and wearing the Gator mascot costume to help rev up the sidelines.”
The girls faced The Master’s School, winning 5-1. From the moment the squad took the field, they relied on the crowd’s pumped-up energy to give them an edge.
With an assist by Shani Breiman ’18 early in the first half, Sophie Lapat ’18 scored the first goal. The Gators kept the pressure on with a quick second goal by Brieman. In the second half, Kristin Gates ’15 scored a beautiful shot off a corner kick. The Gators kept up defensively, with strong support from midfielder Alina Fischer ’16. Before the final whistle, Breiman scored two more times, with Lapat reaching the back of the net once.
After the girls’ win, the boys faced-off against the Hoosac School. Defensively, the team kept busy with impressive performances from Keenan Iulliano ’15, Tyler Best ’18, and Sean Lee ’16. The Gators managed several shots on net, but midfielder Alex Dolan ’17 scored the lone goal in the second half. The team lost 7-1.
“We had a record number of Alumni attending from the past few graduating classes and the rain, thankfully, held off until after the boys game,” says Director of Alumni Affairs and Special Events Amanda Frank. “We are proud of both teams. Both are winners in my book.”
