Kaya Ertan, Fourth Grade

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, people across the globe are being forced to reevaluate the structure of their everyday lives. Self-quarantining has been particularly difficult for children, who are used to leaving the house for school each day.

Kaya Ertan ’28 wrote a poem to express how he has felt during this unusual time. The poem can be read below.

Past nine

I feel alone in the dark,

Friends on screens but in truth apart.

It is past nine!

Sidewalks say goodbye,

Can not roam tonight.

Roads are glistening,

Animals free

But no glee

To see

That they are alone tonight,

No one for them to play with.

So they look for him,

And here’s what they find.

A guy,

That’s sad.

It’s past nine!

Wanting to go outside.
