Fashion Flash: Jared Smith, Science Teacher
Science Teacher Jared Smith says his style is best described as “lumber-sexual,” which Dictionary.com defines as “a man whose style of dress and appearance is reminiscent of the ruggedly masculine stereotype of the lumberjack, as in wearing plaid shirts and having a beard.”
Recently, The Gator sat down with Smith to hear about his funky style.
How would you describe your style?
So I would say my style for a long time was lumber sexual, but I feel like I’m slowly transitioning to ‘accidentally fabulous.’
What are the most important things you consider when picking out your outfit for the day?
How the colors all match together, what shoes will I wear, and if I’m doing an experiment or lab that day that requires specific clothing. To be honest, my pants are pretty boring; mostly just khakis, so that’s an area for improvement.
Where do you like to shop for your clothes?
I like to go to Buffalo Exchange for fun thrifts, and Uniqlo for basic work stuff. Honestly the quality of their clothes are just so bad, I’m having a really hard time finding environmentally conscious clothing at an affordable price.
What is your favorite thing to shop for?
I honestly have a hard times spending money on my self and this a self care thing I’m trying to work on. Like why not go buy a nice pair of shoes?
What is your favorite article of clothing or accessory?
I never wear it, but I have a really cool bolo tie that my great-uncle gave me, so I really like that. I have a couple of really nice shirts that I got a thrift shop in France this summer that are really fun!
