The Gator garnered 15 individual awards at today’s New England Scholastic Press Association’s Spring Conference, along with two top collective prizes for overall excellence, including its 6th-consecutive All-New England Award.
This represents the highest number of regional awards ever garnered by The Gator within a single academic year, surpassing the previous record of eight wont last spring.
“I’ve said this all year long, but don’t let the relative youth of this newsroom send any doubt about their capabilities,” Cutler said. “The proof is in the pudding. I am just one proud educator.”
Eleven student journalists attended the event, with Co-Editor-in-Chief Amelia Bowman ’25 presenting on a panel about covering divisive and controversial content.
Co-Editor-in-Chief Evan Michaeli ’24 also earned recognition, securing a spot on the Massachusetts All-State Staff, a distinguished group comprising the top twelve student journalists statewide.
Cutler encourages students to consider joining The Gator this fall, where he pledges to continue offering support to help students not only reach their highest potential, but also win individual and collective accolades, which, when the time comes, bolster job and college applicaitons.
