In a rare scrimmage against a public school opponent, Varsity Boys Lacrosse kicked off their season yesterday with a hard-fought 5-4 win against Boston Latin Academy.
The win came off goals from team captain Quinn Teschke ’26 (2), Maxim Audoly ’26 (2), and Isaiah Lee ‘26 (1).
According to Teschke, this win has set the tone for the season to come.
“The game went well,” Teschke said. “We’ve only had a few practices, but I think we looked really good and worked well as a team. I think there’s a lot to improve on, but we got the win, and I think that our offense improved from last season… It sets the tone for the season.”
Teschke also acknowledged the team’s ability to remain composed in a close game.
“We were calm, kept it together, and just worked well as a team,” Teschke said.
Teschke was also impressed by how the team was able to overcome public school opposition BLA, a grade 7-12 public school with 1,600+ students.
“We’re all really proud to have gotten that win because we’re a much smaller school, so we really had to work together as a team, and we were limited to practices coming off spring break and other things,” said Teschke.
According to Nolan Suraci ’26, freshman team members like Will Hetherington ’29 and Nick Porteleki ’29 stood out in the win.
“Coach just kept commenting on how [Will] wasn’t fazed by the pressure,” Suraci said. “He was getting more one-on-one than anybody else, and was doing a great job of picking up the ball, moving it around, taking shots on net without being fazed by anybody smacking him around at all, all game long. It was impressive.”
According to Teschke, Porteleki starred in the win, playing goalie.
“Nick had 10 plus saves, so that was really good,” Teschke said.
With a victory under their belts, the team feels optimistic about the upcoming season.
The Gators will host Gann Academy at Mount Ida on April 15 at 4:00 p.m.
