The varsity baseball team won its second consecutive league championship last Wednesday at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, finishing the season with nine wins and three losses.

The Gators defeated Boston Trinity Academy, 12-2.

In the last inning of the game, Head Coach Matthew Skelly described feeling “elated” and “excited.” A former college pitcher and AAU coach, Skelly also said that this was one of the best seasons of Gator baseball, with fans also adding to the team’s energy.

Second baseman Dylan Rigol ‘18 was excited to join the team this year and help the Gators secure another league championship. “Everyone was focused and playing their best—it was the biggest moment for the team,” he said.

Backup pitcher Matthew Hastings ’18 echoed Rigol’s sentiments. “The season went well, even after last year losing Quinn Iuliano ‘14, our starting pitcher,” he said, adding that the team looks solid again next year—even with six seniors leaving for college.

On that point, Kelly said, “Keenan Iuliano was by far one of the best players on the field and our best pitcher, but I believe that we can still win the championship next year.”

In the semi-final match last Monday, the Gators defeated Newman in a 10-0 blowout.
