During Morning Meeting today, Brian Gamble ’23 and Quinn Nielson ’23 were recognized for their high achievement in athletics, as both will advance to NCAA Division I teams for their respective sports.

Gamble will be attending Yale University starting this fall, running cross-country and track. After starting to run competitively in his first year of high school under coach Ted-Barker-Hook, Brian’s career has been record-breaking, winning elite titles such as two-time New England Champion, three-time MBIL Champion, and USATF Road 5k Champion.

“I’m very grateful for the recognition I got today,” Gamble said. “It’s always really nice when you get appreciated for anything, but especially my coach Mr. Barker-Hook and my parents being there made it very special.”

Basketball star Nielsen committed to The Citadel last fall, where he will play basketball. Joining the School’s community in 10th grade, Nielson instantly stood out to coaches and spectators, not only for his height but also his advanced playing ability, according to his coach, Tom Nelson.

“I’m so happy that I met Coach Tom,” Nielson said. “He helped me with everything, and I’m very grateful for the Brimmer community and what they’ve done for me.”

Athletic Director Brett Kelly invited Barker-Hook and Nelson onstage to deliver remarks about the athletes’ achievements and character. Kelly wished the athletes the best of luck next year as they compete at the highest level in collegiate athletics.
