One year ago, Boys Varsity Soccer didn’t make the playoffs for the first time in 21 years. Last Tuesday, after a dominant 6-0 win against Cambridge School of Weston, the team clinched the two seed for playoffs, allowing them to bypass the first round of the tournament.
The team’s improvement is shown in their record, winning eight, tying three, and only losing two. In comparison, last year’s team only had three total wins.
Goalie and Captain Quinn Teschke ‘26 credited their success to an attitude of trust.
“I feel like our team is very skilled and I trust everybody,” Teschke said. “By this point in the season everyone knows their role, and I trust that they will fill that role.”
Teschke also cited the team’s willingness to constantly improve as a source of success.
“[Right now] we are trying to work on controlling the midfield,” Teschke said. “Our defense has been amazing, and with the right opportunities and chances, our offense will definitely be able to score. If we can control the midfield, we can control the game.”
After a successful regular season, Teschke is optimistic for the postseason.
“I have really high hopes for playoffs this year,” Teschke said. “I feel like our team is very skilled and I trust everybody. By this point in the season, everyone knows their role, and I trust that they will fill that role.”
Teschke also voiced the teams’ hopes for more than a deep playoff run.
“I think we have a really great shot at winning the league,” Teschke said. “I trust our coaches and our strategy to beat any team we might face.”
The Gators will play against the three-seeded Newman School in the semifinal on Monday, who secured their spot after beating Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall 2-0 in the quarterfinals. With confidence, trust, and morale high, the team will be looking to punch their ticket to the final.
