In a rematch against Newman in the MBIL semifinals, the Boys Varsity Soccer team pulled out a statement 2-0 win in the swamp.
The Gators, who continue their pistol hot winning streak, have won all seven of their home games, and got the win against Newman after losing to them 3-1 earlier in the season.
In the match, both Caleb Bess ‘27 and Adi Houndegla ‘26 scored for the Gators. The Gators’ astounding defense was on full display as well, keeping a clean sheet without allowing many shots on goal.
Bess is proud of how far his team has come this season.
“Having lost to Newman earlier this season, 1-3, to come back and win 2-0 in the playoffs feels different,” Bess said. “We came back with an intensity they couldn’t match.”
The Gators are on the road Wednesday, November 5, for the MBIL Championship in a rematch vs Gann. The Gators lost to Gann earlier in the season, 0-3, but look to bounce back on enemy turf.
Bess appreciates the mindset that the team has adopted.
“We just want to keep winning, honestly,” Bess said. “It sounds obvious, but we really do. We’re a hungry team, and we know we can do it, and we want as much as we can get.“
With an electrifying championship game on the horizon and a possible NEPSAC bid, the Gators look to stick to their principles and continue their winning ways.
The team plays tomorrow at 2:30 at Gann Academy in Waltham.
