It’s that time of year again, and Spotify Wrapped is back. From music fanatics to casual listeners, everyone is checking their top artists and songs.
Spotify Wrapped, introduced in 2016, is an annual marketing campaign that allows listeners to view a compilation of their most listened-to music of the year.
Following this, Apple Music and other platforms added similar end-of-year reviews. But what makes listeners so fond of them? And how has Spotify Wrapped affected the music community?
According to Business Insider, Spotify Wrapped engaged roughly 200 million users in its first 24 hours in 2025, a 19% increase from last year. Vera Paulino from The Daily Fandom claims that seeing the exact minutes spent listening or the percentage of time with a favorite artist makes the musical journey comparable and more enjoyable.
“Sharing your favorite genres, artists, and songs is one form of connecting with a community,” Paulino says.
Spotify Wrapped is not just about a listener’s minutes of music streamed, it also features information about a user’s favorite genres, albums, and artists.
Spotify praises you; it validates and makes listeners proud of their musical journeys. Each year, Spotify Wrapped has developed new features to make user experiences more enjoyable. Some major additions over the years to Wrapped were listening age, which determines a likely age based on the release years of users’ most listened to tracks and genres.
Spotify also added Wrapped clubs, which sort users into six listening clubs based on taste. With the recent development of AI, Spotify has introduced a listening archive, which uses AI to highlight memorable listening days.
We asked some of the Brimmer community to share their Spotify Wrapped or music replay to see who their top artists and genres are.
In the Brimmer community, there were a variety of different results. The most popular artists were Taylor Swift, Daniel Caesar, and Drake. 7.55% of respondents had these artists as their favorites.
The three artists encompass many different genres such as Pop, R&B, and Hip Hop. These genres dominated the Brimmer charts, with 34% of people’s top artists being Hip Hop. Pop followed that at 19%, and R&B also had 19%.
The top 5 artists from Brimmer this year were Drake, Taylor Swift, and Daniel Caesar tied with 7.55%, SZA with 5.66%, and then Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, The Beatles, and The Weeknd at 3.77%. These other artists continue the Hip-Hop and R&B trends, but also include other diverse tastes.
Most students spoke positively about the format of their music platforms’ rewind this year and enjoyed the interactive new additions. This year’s Spotify Wrapped was a win for Brimmer, as different tunes and artists helped bring the community together.
