In the wake of the largest snowstorm that Chestnut Hill had seen in years back in early February, students celebrated the unexpected time off it provided. However, while students enjoyed their two consecutive snow days, the maintenance team worked tirelessly to clear more than two feet of snow from Middlesex Road.
Now, another major system has arrived. Due to the impending blizzard and the forecast of 18+ inches of snow, school will be closed on Monday, Feb. 23. As the most recent storm sweeps through and adds yet another significant layer of accumulation, the campus once again relies on the dedication of the maintenance staff. Crews return to plows and shovels, navigating freezing temperatures and long hours to ensure that roads, walkways, and entrances remain safe for students and faculty. With back-to-back storms hitting within weeks of each other, their work has proven even more demanding.
Yet their responsibilities extend far beyond clearing snow. On any given day, members of the team serve as bus drivers, crossing guards, and repair specialists, stepping in wherever they are needed to keep both our campus and our daily routines running smoothly. Their steady presence strengthens the foundation of our community, and we are fortunate to have them here.
Even the harshest winter temperatures never seem to slow them down. They show up each day with consistency and care, often greeting students with a high-five, a smile, or a friendly conversation that brings warmth to even the coldest mornings.
Once again, The Gator extends its endless gratitude to the maintenance team for their continued hard work and commitment to keeping our community safe. Thank you to Mr. Smith, Mr. Barker-Hook, Mr. Schmottlach, Mr. Bray, Mr. Salazar, and Mr. Landaverde for your dedication and service.
