This Friday is the day students have all been waiting for! Upper School senate elections will be held during community block in the theater, and students will have the opportunity to hear from candidates before casting in their vote.
Incumbent President Mary Wang ’26 expressed her excitement for the upcoming election.
“I’m really happy see so much interest from candidates who enjoy our community and want to bring better ideas to the student body by being a part of senate,” Wang said.
Monte Turner ’27 is running for president after expressing interest in the role last year; he has served as an 11th grade class representative and has focused on planning Upper School events and representing student ideas.
One vice presidential candidates is Neil Chen ’28, who, like Turner, is also in his second year here.
“I just love that it’s a small-sized community,” Chen said. “It allows me to connect with a variety of different people.”
George Demeter ’27 is one of this year’s candidates for treasurer, which keeps track of the Senate’s budget and provides ideas for fundraisers.
Demeter has not previously been involved in the Senate and currently runs a car detailing business with Bede Paasch-Pearce ’27, which he started last summer.
Jaedin Feaster ’28, a student voter, has followed the senate elections each year.
“I look for someone who has an open mind,” Feaster said.
Presidential candidates will each have two minutes to speak, while candidates for other positions will each have one minute.
“I am confident that every candidate will be successful in their position, and I can’t wait to hear everyone’s speeches,” Wang said.
The Senate elections are a reminder of the importance of voting and civic responsibility, according to Wang, as each position plays an important role.
